Character	Warm, generous, and alive to the touch.	Light, dimensionally stable, and quietly practical.	Dense, quiet, and expensive-looking without trying.	Soft, ductile, and never quite finished changing.
How it looks	Ranges from a bright polished yellow through brushed and satin to deep antique and near-black.	Naturally light grey and matt.	Deep brown-gold through to near-black, matt or satin more often than bright.	Bright pink-orange when new, moving through browns to deep near-black, or driven deliberately to green and blue verdigris.

Outdoors	Suitable externally where a living, weathering surface is intended, or with a protective coating where it is not.
