Bathroom Metalwork

Where finishes are tested hardest.

Brass shower screen with arched frosted glass panels

Cubicles, frames and vanity details engineered to keep their finish in the wettest room in the building.

Bathroom metalwork is a durability problem disguised as a decorative one. Standing water, humidity, cleaning chemicals and daily handling all attack a finish at once, and they attack it at the joints first.

So the detailing matters: frames drain rather than hold water, fixings are concealed but accessible, glass is set with a positive seal rather than silicone alone, and the finish specified is one that suits the exposure rather than only the mood board.

We build shower cubicles and partitions, vanity and counter metalwork, mirror frames, and the small trims and profiles that tie a stone bathroom together.

Water decides everything here

Bathroom metalwork lives in the one room where water is always on the surface and often on the frame. The choices that matter are about that: a grain that hides spots rather than shows them, an edge that sheds water rather than holding it, a finish that will not lift where the sealant meets it, and fixings that are not going to stain the stone below them in a year.

Brass and bronze are welcome in a bathroom precisely because they age. The finish is chosen knowing what it will become, and the sample is judged wet as well as dry.

Questions & answers

Questions about bathroom metalwork

Will brass tarnish in a bathroom?

Bare brass will tone down anywhere, and faster where it is wet. That is either the reason to choose it or the reason to lacquer it — a lacquered brass stays bright and is simply wiped; a bare one develops a soft, darker surface that many people prefer. Choose knowingly, and judge the sample wet as well as dry.

Can a shower cubicle be made frameless in metal?

A cubicle can be as minimal as a single formed channel at the floor and a slim post, with the glass doing the rest — the frame is reduced rather than removed. The metal that remains is doing real work: holding the glass true, shedding water, and meeting the tray and the wall with a line rather than a bead of sealant.
