How it looks	A fine unidirectional grain.	Soft clouds of dark tone drifting across a warm ground.	A worked surface of controlled dents that breaks reflection into hundreds of small highlights.	Softer and more open than hairline, with a matt reflection that sits comfortably beside stone and timber.

Worth knowing	A scratch across the grain is visible from a distance.	Suits panels, cladding and furniture seen as a whole.	The dents hold dust and, outside, water.	Small repairs blend better than on hairline but a damaged area is still re-brushed across the whole face.
Looking after it	Wipe along the grain, never across it, with a mild detergent and a soft cloth.	Lacquered, it is simply wiped.	A soft brush lifts dust from the dents; a damp cloth for marks.	Along the grain, mild detergent, soft cloth.
