How it looks	A fine unidirectional grain.	Deep three-dimensional panels and medallions cast from a pattern, then hand-finished.	A non-directional swirled grain that scatters light.	Soft clouds of dark tone drifting across a warm ground.

Worth knowing	A scratch across the grain is visible from a distance.	A pattern has to be made before anything is cast, so a one-off medallion carries the cost of its tooling.	Hard to carry cleanly around a tight curve, so it suits flat and gently formed panels.	Suits panels, cladding and furniture seen as a whole.
Looking after it	Wipe along the grain, never across it, with a mild detergent and a soft cloth.	A soft brush for the relief, a damp cloth for the face.	Wipe in any direction — there is no grain to respect, which is why it hides scuffs better than any other polished surface.	Lacquered, it is simply wiped.
