| How it looks | Deep three-dimensional panels and medallions cast from a pattern, then hand-finished. | A non-directional swirled grain that scatters light. | Surfaces worked or grown to a tactile grain — crystalline, mottled, stony, or crazed like old glaze — that catches side light and changes as the light moves. | A fine unidirectional grain. |

| Worth knowing | A pattern has to be made before anything is cast, so a one-off medallion carries the cost of its tooling. | Hard to carry cleanly around a tight curve, so it suits flat and gently formed panels. | Deep textures collect dirt and grease, so they belong away from kitchens, counters and the outdoors. | A scratch across the grain is visible from a distance. |
| Looking after it | A soft brush for the relief, a damp cloth for the face. | Wipe in any direction — there is no grain to respect, which is why it hides scuffs better than any other polished surface. | Dust with a soft brush and wipe; a deep grain holds what a flat surface would shed. | Wipe along the grain, never across it, with a mild detergent and a soft cloth. |
